Christopher L. Tucci is Professor of Major Programmes & Innovation at the University of Oxford and an Affiliate of Oxford AI in Major Programmes at Saïd Business School.
He joined Oxford in 2025 and became Full Professor of Major Programmes & Innovation in 2026. He is also Professor of Digital Strategy & Innovation at Imperial College London, where he is currently on leave for 2026–2027. At Imperial College Business School, he served as Vice Dean of Education ad Interim from 2025 to 2026 and as Co-Director of Education at I-X from 2020 to 2026. I-X is Imperial College London’s interdisciplinary initiative bringing together expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data and digital technologies. From 2020 to 2023, he was also Academic Director of the Centre for Digital Transformation.
From 2024 to 2025, Tucci was Founding Dean of the College of Business & Innovation at NEOM University in Saudi Arabia, where his responsibilities included developing the College’s strategy, recruiting faculty, designing Bachelor’s and Master’s curricula in AI and energy innovation, and developing executive education.
Previously, he spent 17 years at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where he was Professor of Management of Technology and held the Chair in Corporate Strategy & Innovation. From 2013 to 2018, he served as Dean of EPFL’s College of Management of Technology and from 2013 to 2020 as Academic Director of its Executive MBA programme. In 2018, he was a Visiting Thought Leader at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai.
Earlier in his academic career, he taught at New York University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has held numerous visiting scholar and professor appointments at universities around the world.
Tucci holds a PhD in Management from MIT, as well as a Master of Science in Technology and Policy / Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from MIT. He also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Stanford University.
Before entering academia, he worked as a computer scientist in industry. His research interests include business model innovation, digital strategy, artificial intelligence and innovation, crowdsourcing, IoT and digitalisation, innovation management, entrepreneurship, technology strategy, design thinking, corporate governance and innovation, and technology policy.
His core research focuses on the transformation of business models, technologies and organisational forms, with particular emphasis on how digital technologies and artificial intelligence reshape innovation and value creation.
His work has been published in leading academic journals, including Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Research Policy, Communications of the ACM, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Academy of Management Annals and Journal of Product Innovation Management.
His paper with Allan Afuah, Crowdsourcing as a Solution to Distant Search, received the Best Paper Award in 2012, the Best Practical Implications Award in 2019, and the Decade Award in 2022 from the Academy of Management Review.
He has held leadership positions in both the Academy of Management (AOM) and the Strategic Management Society. In 2023, he was elected to the leadership track of the Academy of Management’s Board of Governors, culminating in his term as President of the world’s largest academic association in the field of management in 2026–2027.
