prof. dr. Blaž Zupan

Dr. Blaž Zupan researches and teaches artificial intelligence and machine learning at the University of Ljubljana and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. At the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics (FRI) in Ljubljana, he leads a twenty-member bioinformatics laboratory, which, among other things, develops the world-famous software tool for machine learning Orange (https://orange.biolab.si). He published his works in more than a hundred articles, which in total received more than ten thousand citations. He is the recipient of the Pooh Award for Innovation (2022), the Zois Award (2010), two Golden Plaques of the University of Ljubljana (2011, 2019), a Fulbright Scholarship (2013) and a six-time recipient of the title of best teacher awarded by FRI students (2008-2017 ). He was included in the list of the hundred most influential innovators of Central and Eastern Europe (2016) by the Financial Times and Google.
